Light colour and its effect

In our latitude the human eye has adjusted ideally to sunlight that is visible during the day with a colour temperature from 5000 to 6000 Kelvin. The international standard for a sunny day with clear sky is 5500 K. The colours of the lamps for your home are geared to resemble natural lighting and reach from yellow-orange to cool blue tones. Lamps that are produced industrially allow a wide spectrum of warm white colours with ca. 3000 K to bright daylight white with 6500 K. In comparison: Candle light is rated with 1500 K.

Light temperature and brightness have a subliminal impact of our feeling of comfortableness, from time immemorial our biological rhythm subjects us to sunrise and sunset as well as the seasons of the year. Depending the thermal sensitivity to the light temperature, our mood can shift considerably, making us relaxed and sleepy or wide awake and attentive. The light of a common 40 Watt incandescent light bulb is perceived as pleasant and cosy, which is why it is such a popular choice. With 3000 K it contains more red than normal daylight, it appears homey, warm and comfortable. Neutral and daylight white have a higher blue content, which in turn stimulates liveliness and concentration, it is thus ideal for use in a kitchen or office. The colour rendering is also a decisive factor for the quality of your light source. It is 100% in natural daylight. Artificial light should therefore contain at least 80% colour rendering quality for a natural, comfortable result.

Saving energy with lamps

The classic incandescent light bulb was patentend by Thomas Edison in 1880 and has remained true to its essential technology for more than 100 years. Due to its little light output it has now finally gone out of style. Compared to new, economical technology it is extremely inefficient. Only five percent of the consumed energy is transformed into light, the rest becomes heat!

In the EU, lamps for domestic use are divided into energy efficiency classes that reach from A++ to G. Lamps classified as G have the least light conversion and mostly emit heat. This only boost utility bills and CO2 emissions.

In order to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emission, the EU and other countries such as Switzerland and China banned production and distribution of wasteful incandescent light bulbs. Between September 2009 and the end of 2012 production and distribution have been stopped step by step. Millions of households have been converting to halogen and energy saving lamps or use Light-emitting diodes as the most durable option.

LEDs are superior to other energy-saving lamps when it comes to green technology, because they do not contain toxic substances and haven proven to be highly durable. Furthermore measurements revealed that they save much more energy, and therefore utility costs. Opposers have criticised the cool blueish light that appears too technical for the use at home. The market has already reacted by creating LEDs with warm tones.

Lamps we offer

The description E 27 refers to the lamp socket and mounting with an outer diameter of 27 mm. This size is often used for incandescent bulbs for interior lighting. The screw cap at the lower end of the bulb resembles an enhanced thread. The smaller E 14 version, sometimes called “candelabra“, is for instance used for desk lights.

Incandescent lamps offer dimmable or matt light for a special well-being. On the other hand however, they show less energy efficiency than other bulbs and have a service life of about 1,000 hours.

Halogen lamps with warm white lighting are available in our shop with their classic pear-shape starting with a consumption of 18 Watt. They have a life of about 2,000 hours and are classified as energy efficiency rating C-D.

Energy-saving lamps brim over with a standard service life of 8,000 to 10,000 hours! Warm white light illuminates the room with an energy efficiency class A rating and a consumption of as little as 9 Watt! The only disadvantage are parts with amalgam or liquid mercury, that require a special disposal at the end of their service life.
LED lamps for warm white, bright lighting. The diodes last from 20,000 to 40,000 hours depending on the model. The energy efficiency classes also cover everything from A to A++, meaning that during operation there is no unneccessary heat emission. They are mercury-free and therefore more environmentally friendly than other energy-saving lamps.
