Energy-saving ceiling fan Eco Airscrew in various colours

Stuffy, hot rooms that seem to only get stuffier and hotter no matter how long you open the window or how fast the desk fan is running right next to you – we’ve all experienced it. Whether you live in a loft or attic floor or work in an office with a large glass front, once portable fans and open windows don’t suffice anymore it is time to look for an alternative.

Renowned German brand CasaFan has developed an efficient product range: The Eco Airscrew models. The brand has been designing and producing ceiling fans since 1984 so there is no shortage of experience. The Eco Airscrew fans are made from high-quality materials such as solid wood and metal, incorporating an energy-efficient direct current motor. The range offers a large selection of colour combinations to suit many different interiors styles, personal taste and architecture on-site. Customers are guaranteed a satisfying premium product.

Ceiling fans are generally a good long-term investment, whether it is one with or without lighting. They provide a much more pleasant breeze than a pedestal fan, for example. Due to the size of their blades they rotate much slower, however their airflow is also much more efficient because it can cover the entirety of the room. The slower rotation also significantly decreases the noise level which is especially important in rooms where you need quietude, for example bedrooms or conference rooms.

The Eco Airscrew ceiling fans offer 6 fan speeds in total ranging from slow (which is ideal during sleep) to 125 revolutions per minute. That means you can adapt the airflow intensity to the requirements you have at any given time. A standard AC motor fan usually only offers 3, maybe 4 fan speeds at most.

Another benefit is the space a ceiling fan takes up. A portable fan is placed somewhere on the floor, it has a short cord and needs to be put away once the hot weather is over. A ceiling fan is always found in the same place, you don’t have to store it away and it doesn’t take up precious space on the ground. Ceiling fans come in a variety of styles and colours so that you can choose to make it a subtle addition to the room or the main design feature of the room.

The low energy DC/EC motor inside the Eco Airscrew fans consumes a maximum of 23 Watts on high speed. This is particularly interesting if you are looking for a device that is supposed to run for hours on end, for example when you are sleeping at night or in the seating area of a restaurant. You will profit from a nice breeze that doesn’t strain your electricity bill. It is also a greener alternative to expensive air conditioning systems that require maintenance several times a year and consume at least twice as much power. In the long run, the ceiling fan is the cheaper option even though the initial costs might seem high.

Eco Airscrew ceiling fans also come with a reverse function that is activated on the remote. The reverse function is a clever feature that many ceiling fans offer. It changes the direction of the rotation from clockwise to counterclockwise. It is also known as a “summer and winter mode”. The forward function (summer mode) is used for cooling in the summer. The reverse direction (winter mode) recirculates heat in the winter. In the summer the fan blows air down directly, providing this cooling effect we desperately need. In the winter, the fan helps combat loss of heat. Once you turn on your heater the warm air will rise up towards the ceiling and accumulate there. That is why the floor and your feet remain cold even though your heater might be on the highest setting. The fan’s reverse motion breaks up this layer of hot air on the ceiling and forces it down to the ground in a continuous cycle of mixing the layers. Over time this evens out the indoor climate and you won’t need to turn the heater on high anymore, saving more energy.

The design of this fan range is reminiscent of an old airplane propeller. The streamlined construction of the blades helps to optimize the airflow while consuming little energy. The 152 cm diameter together with the central position in the upper level of the room ensure the air is circulated in the whole room, not just a certain place as a desk fan would, to name one example. Thereby the risk of a stiff neck or catching a cold due to draught is decreased significantly. The blades are made from multilayered solid wood that is finished in different colours, such as matt black or a natural wood décor. This gives customers the freedom to match the fan’s design to the rest of the existing interior.

Now, what correlation is there between the size of the fan and the size of the room? Those two factors are very important. It goes without saying that large rooms require a higher airflow, meaning the fan size should be on the bigger side as well – the bigger your room, the bigger your fan needs to be. Otherwise you will risk putting up an appliance that doesn’t have any apparent effect at all. Likewise it is not good to install a fan that is much to big in a small room, because this causes unpleasant draught. For example, small rooms up to 8 m² require a diameter of about 76 cm. The Eco Airscrew is suitable for rooms with up to 35 m². Learn more in-depth information about matching sizes here. The ceiling itself needs to be able to carry a load of 25 kg at the very least. We offer a special mounting kit for suspended ceilings as well. The construction of the canopy and mounting bracket allow the fan to be installed on ceilings with up to 12° pitch.

Many customers also wonder about the number of blades a fan has. How many blades should the fan have, does it make any difference at all? The recommended quantity depends on the type of use and place of use. Under the right circumstances, more blades can provide better airflow. However the number of blades is just one of the many factors that determine the performance of the fan. The profile of the blades are just as important. A curved blade creates more airflow than a flat blade. The Eco Airscew does have a curved design, just like airplane propellers as mentioned before. This allows the fan to provide high airflow despite low rotation speeds which in turn impacts the noise level. Wherever you are looking for pleasant cooling with a smooth quiet operation such as bedrooms, a fan with three to four blades is recommended.

Other criteria that influence the performance are motor power under stress as well as the total surface of the blades. Bigger blades can move more air than small blades. Models on the lower spectrum of the pricing range usually incorporate a large number of blades which increases the load on the motor and ceiling. For that reason we recommend to concentrate on the design of the blades rather than the number of the blades.

Every setting the Eco Airscrew has can be controlled with the included remote. Usually, alternating current ceiling fans come with pull chains and a slide switch on the motor that activates the forward / reverse function. However, direct current ceiling fans such as the CasaFan Eco Airscrew range are controlled only by the remote. This means you won’t have to get up from the couch every time you want to change the fan speeds. Furthermore, you might not be able to reach up or climb a ladder to use the manual switch for the rotation direction. With the Eco Airscrew you can switch from summer to winter mode with the remote as well.

Alternative: Eco Genuino in three sizes

CasaFan is known for providing a large mix-and-match range with hundreds of blade sets, add-on light kits and control options. This allows you to replace broken parts or revamp your ceiling fan. In case of the Eco Airscrew the blades can be purchased separately should you ever break one or want to change the look of the fan. The Eco Airscrew range has its own series of extension rods matching the colours of the motors: brushed chrome, brushed brass, matt white and matt black. Longer rods are needed in rooms with tall ceilings to ensure the fan isn’t placed too high in the room which would decrease efficiency. The fans as they come in the box have a relatively low overall height. You can reduce the overall drop even further by cutting the original rod to size.

The Eco Airscrew is too big or too small for your demands? Take a look at our Eco Genuino range. They have a similar design and comparable technical details. However, the Eco Genuino comes in more sizes than the Eco Airscrew models: 122 cm, 152 cm and 180 cm. Both CasaFan series belong to the most sophisticated, state-of-the-art ceiling fans on the market.
